I've seen figures of even mediocre painting standard brought to life by nicely finished bases. Personally I don't go the 'extra mile' of tussock or floral adornments, but they add something.

Having left over sawdust flocking from nearly 40 years ago (green, brown and untinted), I find that mixing this with 'Woodland scenics' gives quite a nice finish. I used to add tea leaves, but don't recommend it, as even after leaching there is enough tannin remaining gradually to turn your bases a fairly uniform brown. But crushed kitty litter (clean!) I like to add, especially for Levantine or Balkans Ancients.Archduke Piccolohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15533325665451889661noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4809892888059311958.post-24931790800069261162014-10-16T12:36:24.461+13:002014-10-16T12:36:24.461+13:00Very nice and effective basing, and doesn't se...Very nice and effective basing, and doesn't seem too difficult. I am lazy and impatient when it comes to basing, though - I'd rather paint more figures!

The best compromise I've found is a product I picked up almost accidentally at Historicon a few years back ( I had bases to flock at the last minute and forgot to bring flock with me). Anyway, It is Scenic Express "Alpine Meadow Blend" #EX884B (scenicexpress.com). It's a mix of different colors of static grass, flock, and light colored ballast-like material. All applied in one step over a coat of white glue. I'll be the first to admit that it doesn't look nearly as good as your fine work here, but it isn't half bad and is compatible with my basing impatience!

:-)Gonsalvohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16531623280789478092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4809892888059311958.post-58871383738186082782014-10-16T11:03:47.815+13:002014-10-16T11:03:47.815+13:00Great post - I like this style of basing.Great post - I like this style of basing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
