If its a help, I have an original colpack of the British RHA (modernish its about 45 yrs old), and the bag is held into the recesses of the colpack crown via springy wood circle within the bag, once removed, theres a black cloth covering on the crown.haggishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12371343884614936471noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4809892888059311958.post-16187194602867230152016-12-30T06:54:57.996+13:002016-12-30T06:54:57.996+13:00Great information once again, many thanks Peter! I...Superb work on this Guard Cavalry, Mark. Bravo!

I agree with you on the Perry's choice to do them in campaign uniform. On the plus side, no one else has really done them that way. On the minus side, I want them in full dress uniform, dammit! :-) Especially for La Garde!

I used Foundry figures for my mine, a little smaller but still presumably Perry sculpts:
http://blundersonthedanube.blogspot.com/2012/08/french-imperial-guard-cavalry-part-1.html
http://blundersonthedanube.blogspot.com/2012/08/french-imperial-guard-cavalry-part-2.html

Like you, I also spent considerable time contemplating "aurore". I looked at the colors of autumn leaves and sunrises (aurore is supposedly more of a golden dawn than a sunset color), and wound up custom mixing my own as well, with an end result similar to what you used. I went with the Grenadier trumpeter in the white bearskin as shown by my 1970 vintage copy of Funken. Even though it seems that that was an error on their part, it looks glorious! The Foundry Chasseurs have the trumpet banners on the castings, another piece of glorious military bling!

The top of the colpack in undress like these figures would be black; that's a cover that protects the bag ("flamme"), which was scarlet with aurore trim and braiding. However, it would be easy to justify the (much better looking) red by imagining that they had removed the cover, but left the flamme folded up inside the hollow on top of the colpack. At least that's my story, and I'm sticking with it. I have a full coffee table type book of Rousselot plates on the many variations in dress for these three famous regiments, plus the Lancers. Talk about eye candy!
https://www.amazon.com/Napoleons-Elite-Cavalry-Lucien-Rousselot/dp/1853673714Gonsalvohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16531623280789478092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4809892888059311958.post-9823955971386140622016-12-29T09:34:35.018+13:002016-12-29T09:34:35.018+13:00Excellent work Mark!
