Week 20 of backlog and here is the beginning of a small force of Prussians. These limbers were painted up for our Leipzig refight last year as Horse Artillery Limbers, hence the white cross belts, and are Perry figures. My Prussian force will not be large as several friends have Prussian forces already, but useful to have a few extras available given how persistently they were involved in the 1813-15 period!
The Prussian artillery and limber colour I went with is Vallejo Prussian Blue highlighted/drybrushed with a mix of that colour and Vallejo Pastel Blue. Meanwhile the coats of the drivers are Vallejo Dark Prussian Blue highlighted with Vallejo Prussian Blue. This seems to give the right sort of colour and contrast between the two, though I'm actually happier with how this has turned out in photos as compared to real life! The Prussian army as a whole is probably the most dull looking of the period, in greys and dark blues with rare exceptions, though the facing colours, and lighter blue of the artillery and Dragoons at least provides a bit more colour! The 1806 Prussians were much prettier looking, though present in far fewer and more one sided actions, and thus not as good for wargaming.
These look good. I agree about the uniforms. They lack the panache of others but do seem to have a grim, dogged, purposeful look.

Thanks Stephen and yes that is indeed a good way to frame it!!
DeleteVery nice work, they look really good, mut admit although not as showy as others I quite like the Prussian uniform of the times.
ReplyDeleteThansk Donnie!
DeleteThe blue looks great Mark, as do the entire models. I don't enjoy painting limbers or artillery, but find the finished items give a sense of satisfaction.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lawrence, yes me also!
DeleteLimbers look fab, Mark! Put me into the camp of those hating to paint limbers.
ReplyDeleteIt's a big camp! :) Thanks Jonathan!
Deletethe limbers look great, the more you paint, the better the park look. these set the stage, nicely done.
ReplyDeleteCheers! :)
DeleteGreat looking limbers Chasseur, nice job!
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil!
DeleteLovely looking limbers, I'm planning on getting 3d printed Prussian limbers from the same people who I got my French limbers from, compatible with Perry but much cheaper! I'm in the other camp that likes painting limbers, I know weird, I've got to build and paint a Prussian force for Mockern, kind of looking forward to their planer( and I hope) faster to finish uniforms!

Thanks Iain, yes I guess the plainer uniforms are one advantage, I think you're also the only person I know who likes Limber making! :)
