Austrian Napoleonic Army - 750 figures 28mm

750 28mm Austrians in 4.5 months... time for a short breather to sit back and look at the results :)

Next to add will probably be some Dragoons and Chevauleger. However first I need to paint a few 54mm figures to help out with Peter Jackson's New Zealand WWI centenary diorama. See the Mustering the Troops blog for more on this project. But back to the Napoleonics again after that! Probably some more French for a time as we have the Waterloo 200th anniversary battles coming up.

  6. Beautiful army, Mark - almost impossible to believe that you painted so many in so short a period of time, and so gorgeously?! Sure you don't have a twin who works and sleeps for you? :-)

Yep, needs some Draggoons, Chevau-Legers, Uhlans, Jagers, Hungarians, maybe a few EHK Legion (and of course more Grenz) - by then it will be over 1,000 figures, and at the rate you're going that could be before summer!

  17. Impressive job! Really striking view.
I'm just starting with my Austrian army and learning about it.
On the Victrix Grenadier box it says that they were carrying two banners in a grenadier battalion. I see that you put just one. How it should be done?

    Best wishes,
    Jan

    1. Hi Jan, thanks! The answer to your question seems to be a bit complicated, and I think the answer is you can do what you want with either one or two flags. See here:
"Nevertheless, aside from 1805, the Grenadier battalions which only formed up in wartime just picked up one spare Ordinarfahne"
      http://www.warflag.com/napflags/flaghtml/austria.htm
      And here:
      http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=235994
      Ordinarfahne is the yellow flag.
      Liebfahne is the white flag.

      Good luck!

    4. With a small delay I finished my first battalion in less than a week. Still some things to add, but am pleased with the result. I think with the next I will follow your way, and do it over a black undercoat.

    6. Mark amazing output allied to quality well done!
what way did you paint the whites please from undercoat color upwards
If plastics did you assemble them first or spray undercoat on the sure -i did that recently for victrix saxons and neapolitans .I sprayed the sprue white the blacked in boots/gaiters/heads shakos etc black
Also when you game using BP do you use one or more gun model for your ontable artillery?

    7. Cheers Grecian, assemble then paint for me. As to painting see here: http://chasseuracheval.blogspot.co.nz/search/label/Painting%20%28How%20I%20Paint%29
And in BP we use two guns for a battery. One doesn't look as good I think!

  18. What units strengths did you use Mark for the infantry-any difference between Austrian and Hungarian units?
I usually game with 24 strong but was considering upping it for The Austro-Hungariansf

    1. I've made units in 24-36 for these, so I can use them with Lasalle rules. No diff between Austrian and Hungarian except uniform.

  19. Hi, Excellent work. I am looking at building an Austro-Hungarian army as well ijn 28mm. I have one in 15mm and normally I am a french player, but using both Lasalle and Blucher rules lately, I have been finding the Austrians to be a formidable foe. In Lasalle with the big battalions, I can pummel my French opponents quite easily. All the regiments have individual colors, the Hussars and Uhlans are very colorful the Cuirassiers just look mean. You have inspired me to make the decision to go Austrian.
