Austrian Hussars - Perry 28mm

Austrian Hussar reinforcements done. doubling the number to 72. Hussars were a large proportion of the Austrian cavalry, with more Hussar regiments (12 of them - plus another 6 Insurrectio Hussar regiments as Dmitry mentioned in commments below!) than any other single type of cavalry, so many are required. A lot of lace carefully picked out with Winsor and a Newton Series 7 Triple Zero brush in white (basecoat for yellow), then yellow (rather messily) and then blacklined to tidy up. Not recommended for those in a rush! Of course 28mm Napoleonics is not a hobby for people in a rush anyway, but this is especially the case for painting Hussars!

Here's a look at the individual regiments, starting with Regiment #2, Erzherzog Josef. Very colourful with Light Blue dolman, pelisse and pants and Bright Red shakos. Regiment #6, Blankenstein, wore the same uniform but with black shakos.

Next is Regiment #3 Erzherzog Ferdinand Carl. Dark Blue dolman, pelisse and pants, and Pike Grey shakos. Pike Grey was a light bluish grey, and here I've painted it with Vallejo Shadow Grey, highlighted with Vallejo Pastel Blue. Regiment #1, Kaiser Franz, and Regiment #11, Szeckler, had the same dark blue uniform but with black shakos and yellow buttons for Regt #1 and black shakos and white buttons for regiment #11.

Regiment #4 Hessen Homburg, which is the most commonly painted Austrian Hussar regiment you see. Poplar Green dolman and pelisse, Poppy Red pants, and Bright Blue shakos make it a favourite for many.  According more recent sources I've seen, Austrian Poplar Green was an even more yellow colour than the Games Workshop Moot Green I've used here, but I did these a couple of years ago and they will do!  Regiment #8, Kienmayer, had the same uniform but with black shakos and yellow rather than white buttons.

Next is Regiment #5, Baron Ott. Dark Green dolman and pelisse, Carmine pants, and Bright Red shakos. Regiment #8, Frimont, had the same uniform but with black shakos.

Regiment #7, Liechtenstein, similar to regiment #2, with Light Blue dolman, pelisse and pants, but with Grass Green shakos. Regiment 10, Stipcicz, had the same uniform but with yellow rather than white buttons.

And lastly Regiment 12, Palatinal. Pike Grey dolman and pelisse and Light Blue pants, with black shako. The Pike Grey was painted as for the Shakos of Regiment 3, with Vallejo Shadow Grey, highlighted with Vallejo Pastel Blue. Quite a bluish colour, but in contrast with their Light Blue pants it looks quite grey again!

Austrian Uhlans - 28mm Perry

Austrian Uhlans - I've painted up the 3rd Regiment to add to the existing 1st Regiment. 

First some better pictures of the 1st Regiment with distinctive yellow Czapka.

And the newly added 3rd Regiment with red Czapka, and falling plume rather than the upright plume of the first.

For completeness I'll add my comment from when I posted picture of the 1st Regiment - "the cords also had a very fine black hatching in real life, but given scale of figures and typical viewing difference (and consideration of my sanity!), I decided that trying to represent this detail effectively would be more time and trouble than it was worth."

There's also the 2nd regiment (green Czapka) and 4th regiment (white Czapka), but no plans to add those at the present time as this will be enough Austrian Uhlans for most scenarios I can imagine.
