French Middle Guard - Victrix 28mm

96 Victrix Middle Guard, painted as Middle Guard this time! Flags from GMB. These are the same figure packs that I used for my Artillerie de la Marine, without any conversion except having the tassle on top of the pompom removed.

Fusilier Grenadiers. The white epaullettes are distinctive, together with their red pompoms.

Fusilier Chasseurs. Green pompoms and red and green epaulettes.

A small disaster with the flags, in that I glued one upside down. Ruined it getting it off, but fortunately I had the other one left so photocopied my way to a solution! Don't drink beer and watch videos while sticking flags on! :)

  1. Mark great work
I have just finished the same two units using Victrix and I got colours from Adolfo Ramos
I am now painting 3rd grenadiers to add to middle guard up to 1812 though like you my focus is on 1813-1814.

  3. Fine members of la Garde Moyen! I have glued more than a few flags non upside down lately, even without any ethanol in my system! Perhaps out of distress at the prospects of a Trump Presidency?!

  4. Your construction of the plastic Middle Guard figures and brush work are awesome - well done!

What are the base frontage 50mm/60mm? Also which are better to work with, Victrix 28mm or Perry 28's plastics?

    cheers,

    1. Thanks Phil, these are 50mm square bases which seems to be a local standard.

Perry, and Victrix French Guard and Austrians are roughly comparable. Earlier Victrix French and British have much more assembly required though.

    2. Thanks Mark, I like the look of 6 figure bases and I'm thinking of rebasing my 28mm Napoleonic Saxons to that effect. Also, for about a year now :o) thinking about buying Perry's 28mm Napoleonic plastic Regimental deal and try them out, putting the body parts together etc...anyway..thanks again for your quick replies!

      cheers,

  5. What a wonderful achievement! They look great! I'm struggling to find time to paint a single napoleonic figure, so to see 96 done is challenging and inspirational stuff.

  10. Here's my view on this, lovely paint job and an amazing blue on boring models, I know they might very possibly have worn this dressed down look but I want Full Dress damn it! Guards should be all about the glamour of the period surely? Not some more numpties trudging along in great coats surely?
These look excellent Sir, well done, just not my kind of excellent but everyone's!

    1. Cheers and yes I agree except that I haven't found some full dress guard I like yet! So these are stand ins for now. Perry need to do full dress Imperial Guard cavalry too!

    2. I used to be a full dress uniform type of Guy but now paint those only for dioramas or generals command stands. I actually after many years gaming and painting have come to prefer the En Campagne look yup even pour La Garde I blame the Perrys fine fine figures etc :-)

  11. Looking fantastic Mark. Love the guard in any dress to be truthful and am a megalomaniac enough to have some units in campaign and in dress. That's THE SAME UNITS! How anal is that?
