My Austrians haven't been keeping pace with expansions to the Grande Armee, so it's time to rectify that disparity.
First up, I've painted eight more artillery for the Austrians. Six line 6 pounders and two 12 pounders bringing the total number of Austrian guns to 26.
Bit of a closer look. Here's four 12 pounders, guns are Front Rank, crew are Perry.
Three of the six Cavalry or "Wurst" (sausage) guns. Perry figures. Four 6 pounders, two 7 inch howitzers.
Four of the sixteen line artillery. There's fourteen 6 pounders and two 7 inch howitzers. Crew are mostly Perry but a Front Rank Officer in each battery too.
500 more Austrian Line are also planned. Going with Victrix for these as there's a bit more variety to keep things interesting and also options to make some skirmishers. 7 boxes worth! I've just finished assembling and spray undercoating the first 150 figures (almost 3 boxes worth)...
Mark, I admire. You have a formidable army!
ReplyDeleteThank you again Dmitry!
DeleteFantastic!!
ReplyDeleteCheers Phil :)
DeleteVery impressive collection of Austrian artillery Mark - beautifully painted too - I look forward to seeing how the guys in the last pic look when they have had their white uniforms applied!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Ross, yes looking forward to the Victrix reinforcements being done too! :)
DeleteImpressive!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
DeleteImpressive amount of firepower there
ReplyDeleteThank you Svjek!
DeleteWow! That is an awesome force Mark.
ReplyDeleteCheers Rodger, it's getting there! :)
DeleteGreat, Mark! Hoch, Habsburg!
ReplyDeleteYes! Thanks Sergiuss :)
DeleteGood God, man! Fielding 26 Austrian guns in 28mm boggles my mind. Great work, as always, but how do you plan to field so many at one time? Your gaming table must be HUGE!
ReplyDeleteCheers Jonathan, have 6 x 20 foot table or bigger planned :)
DeleteYeah, that is HUGE!
DeleteLooking good, Mark! It's nice to see such good looking figures in such quantity!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words, and yes good to have quantity!
DeleteNow THAT is a boatload f Artillery, Mark. Donner und Blitzen indeed!
ReplyDelete150 more Austrian "White Menace' infantry is no small undertaking either, although I love the variety of facing colors in the Austrian Army.
Thank you Peter, yes will take while to get through the next lot!
DeleteMark that's going to be one big table hope your back holds up leaning in and pushing the troops about
ReplyDeleteHow many cannon to a battery for you ??? As that's a lot of Austrian artilleryZ what rules are you mainly gearing up to?
Did you undercoat in black or as the colour looks unusual in pic ???
I'm interested in your painting white Austrians method
I try to simplify cut up series and apart black and white as appropriate . Then army painter soft tone wash and white highlight cross belting etc then glue on black sections hats heads backpacks etc . I'm not sure it saves time but it feels somewhat easier and I emphasise the word somewhat
Peter
Thanks Peter! I use 2 cannons or 3-4 cannons per battery depending on size of game. Also 2 cannons to represent 2-4 batteries in brigade level gaming.
DeleteSee here for my own Austrian technique:

amazing work. I have some Austrian artillery in 15mm to do
ReplyDeleteThank you and good luck with your own artillery!
DeleteWow Mark - the White Menace continues to have ambitions on the French upstarts in the land of the long white cloud. Great to see!
ReplyDeleteYes the forces of the Hapsburg Empire grow more confident, cheers :)
DeleteExcellent additions!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul!
DeleteGosh, you don't do things by half! Great looking artillery and I always like your austrian infantry. Out of interest as I will need to base my Napoleonic Artillery what sizes are your bases as they look a good size?
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Cheers Paul, the bases are 50mmx75mm. :)
DeleteGreat work Mark, that is turning into a massive army. Will this next lot about do it for you, or might there be even more in the future?
ReplyDeleteCheers Larence and we'll see! :) Might be a case for another expansion after this, though this will already let me do a lot of scenarios :)
DeleteLooking forward to seeing them in action shots from your tabletop! HUZZAH!
ReplyDeleteMe too, thanks! :)
DeleteThat is a massive expansion Mark. It will be a truly spectacular sight to see.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark, yes looking forward to it! :)
DeleteHi Chasseue,
ReplyDeleteI'm always impressed with your work as you know. But I can't help wondering why these are 36 strong not 48's to qualify as Large units in GdA, it gives Austrians a edge and a point of difference in game terms.
Enjoy, Best wishes, Jeremy
Cheers Jeremy, think this comment was meant for latest line infantry post. :) Answer is just that I'm looking at games varying from 1/20 to 1/100 and the majority of games will probably be at about 1/30 due to how others have their armies.
DeleteBy painting up 4x 36 strong formations, that also divides neatly into 6x 24 strong, or 3 x 48 strong. (One of those 48 strong will be 50/50 mix of two units, but with 1000's of figures hard to notice...).
