Blog update and Napoleonic rules uploaded

My Chasseur Napoleonic blog has grown considerably since I first started it in late 2013. The index of labelled posts to the right is now quite cumbersome, which will only get worse as further topics are added. It's time to take command and reorder matters!

I've added some index tabs across the top to increase the ease of navigating the site content. I'll admit this is not just pure altruism for visitors, but also so I can find things more easily - most typically painting posts so I can remind myself what colours to use! As time passes I'll add more links to these indexes, and a longer term goal is better quality photos.

Additionally, I've added a page and uploaded the "321 - Fast Play Napoleonic Rules" as promised in my previous post, along with some design notes and variants.

  1. The price of success! I'll be interested to look at your fast play rules although it will be some time before I have anything like enough Napoleonic troops! I habitually use my phone to read and post,I think I probably miss a fair bit!

    1. Thanks Iain, yes I find phones a bit tough to use for such purposes!

Re battle size, remember also that vast numbers of Napoleonic battles occurred with only small forces involved (more so than the big battles everyone thinks of) and these are often fun!

  2. Nice start for 2019. I also use my blog to remind me how I may have painted something. I will take a look at your rules too.

    1. Thanks Dean, yes it's nice to have a record, and much easier thank hauling troops out of boxes and trying to inspect them :)

  4. Mark, a very convenient blog now. I liked how you made additional tabs at the top, spreading out the message subject. I'll try to do that too sometime

  5. A very good idea with the indices, and I too will have to look into that. Not that I have anywhere near the number of posts of yourself, of course!

  6. Hi Mark,
Very impressed with your collection/painting skills/rules addenda.
Do you ever sell any of your Napoleonic figures? I never seem to have time anymore to paint the horde of metals (Perry and Front Rank and some others) that are boxed in the basement, undercoated and ready to paint but still boxed...and my son who is just old enough now to wargame is asking when are we going to start? And I say, we're a little light on Austrian and Russian cavalry, just as soon as I get them done we'll play... cheers, Tom from Canada.

  7. Very interesting. Quite similar to the Lasalle rules, which I thought were very very good.

    1. Thanks Paul. Yes some nice concepts in Lasalle which I tried to include, while at the same time addressing aspects which I felt limited their utility given the design goals. E.g. mainly the slow speed of movement and lack of command friction, but also perception skirmishers were perhaps overly abstracted, large cavalry units breaking squares too often, non-linearity of casualty effects from 3 compared to 4 gun batteries etc.
