Next unit finished. Here we have Sailors of the Imperial Guard from Perry Miniatures, in full dress uniform.
This unit was responsible for all watercraft operations involving the Emperor, and were elite soliders on top of that, trained in gunnery, sailing and engineering. As Napoleon said, they could do everything. They are particularly important for some 1814 battles, where the Guard was just about all that was left and still fighting. At its peak this unit was over 1100 strong, down to just 350 when disbanded in 1814. A small group of 150 reformed for the Hundred Days campaign.
They wear what is essentially a Hussar uniform. Webbing is black leather. The distinctive Guard Aurore ('Dawn') colour for the lace, piping and cords I did with a mix of Vallejo orange, pink and yellow paints.
Thanks for looking! Up next Flanquers of the Young Guard.
Superb unit Mark.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carlo!
DeleteBeautifully done Mark.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lawrence! :)
DeleteYes, an extremely handsome unit! Perfect shades of blue too.
ReplyDeleteBest Regards,
Stokes
Cheers Stokes! Vallejo Dark Prussian Blue, highlighted with Dark Blue is what I've settled on for my French :)
DeleteTop notch job!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil!
DeleteTruly the worst unit of the guard, they surrenderd in Bailen then got smashed in 1813
ReplyDeleteWell, "Most unfortunate", might be better term than "worst" perhaps, though some of the other 1813/14 Guard might share that dubious honour! They took incredibly heavy casualties multiple times, and were trapped along with the rest of the force at Bailen and ordered to surrender by Dupont rather than face a massacre.
DeleteReal Beauties!
ReplyDeleteAmazing shade of blue.
Stay safe,
Jeremy
Many thanks Jeremy!
DeleteLovely work Mark
ReplyDeleteCheers Mark!

ReplyDeleteCheers Dean!
DeleteGreat looking unit Mark - I had these Marines of the Guard too, by Minifigs back in the mid 1970's! They were not as well painted as these guys though :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, classic minifigs still look great in my eyes! :)
DeleteLooks great! Very nice uniform.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dmitry!
DeleteExquisite unit, Mark. I love the drummer and trumpeter in "guard bleu celeste" jackets and pants, and your aurore is gorgeous!
