Austrian Chevauleger - Perry 28mm

Friday again and week 4 of the backlog posting. Here are two regiments of Austrian Chevauleger, this time in the green coat, and for something a bit different I've also done these without the combs on their helmets.

This is the "new" plastic Austrian Cavalry set from Perry that lets you make Chevauleger, Dragoons or Cuirassiers. Wish this had come out before I had already painted up 8 such units in the more expensive pewter already, but better late than never! :)

The plumes were apparently left off sometimes by lighter cavalry especially, which I didn't realise until Perry released this set.
This means they just have the brass helmet holder into which the comb fitted. Not as flashy, but more practical for the sort of scouting work light cavalry were doing I suppose!

Thanks for looking and more next week :)

More Austrian cavalry in white with the usual plumes can be found here.

  1. They look great Mark. The Perry plastics are beautiful and the parts fit together nicely, although I still prefer to snip off a few 'worms' and get stuck in rather than having to spend a couple or hours gluing a box of figures together.

That yellow looks great and very sharp. Is it a GW shade over a brown undercoat?

    1. Thanks Lawrence, it is actually Vallejo golden yellow (two coats) over white, bit of a pain to do but gives a nice bright colour!

  3. They look great. I waffled on the combs vs the full crest, they look good either way.

  4. They look super, Mark. Did you use different shades of red for the facings for the two units?

    1. Thanks Peter, I confess both the same shade here! :) I started with a darker shade for one of them and it just didn't look as good!

  5. Excellent looking chevaulegers, they look better in green! I did my foundry Austrian dragoons as chevaulegers ad they're a bit more diminutive but I'm going to have to stick some plastic under my foundry Austrian Cuirassiers!
Lovely finish and it is , like all Perry plastic sets really well designed!

  6. Cracking brush work on those,

I have a soft spot for the Austrian cavalry my wargames mate of 30 years had the most massive Austrian army (every unit for 1809) at 1/20. Raouls army had 6 and 10 Sqaudron cavalry regiments, what a view when charging!

    Cheers
    Matt
